Frequently asked questions

Administration

The connection must be cancelled at the old location and reordered at the new location. We will be happy to assist you with this. Please contact us.

Balance and recharging

As much and as often as you like! For example, you can recharge just enough for the next month, or enough for several months. Billing is not based on calendar months, but rather starting from the day your line was first activated.

Example: you have ordered a new line and paid for one month. Your line is activated on March 10 and billed for March 11 through April 10. Therefore, another monthly fee needs to be on your account by April 10.

We help you to keep this from happening by reminding you in time via e-mail and optionally also via SMS. If you don't recharge your account within 7 days after receiving a reminder, your Internet access will be disconnected.

Situation: your line was deactivated due to insufficient payment, or because you cancelled it via MyAccount. You now want to reinstate the line.

For this, you need to reactivate your previous line.

  1. Log in through MyAccount.
  2. Find the NSN of your existing line in the list of cancelled lines and click on «Reactivate».
  3. Submit the order. Reactivation usually takes 1-2 working days.
Usually, the PPP access credentials (username/password) of the old line are used for the new one, so you don't need to change the settings of your modem/router.

Situation: your line was deactivated due to insufficient payment, or because you cancelled it via MyAccount. You now want to reinstate the line.

For this, you need to order a new line and specify the same OTO-ID as for your previous line.

  1. Log in through MyAccount.
  2. Find the OTO-ID of your existing line in the list of cancelled lines and note/copy it.
  3. Choose «Order new line».
  4. Enter the OTO-ID when prompted. This is to ensure that the new line is switched on to the same fiber outlet as the previous one.
  5. Submit the order. Reactivation usually takes 1-2 working days.

You will receive new PPP access credentials (username/password) for the new line, which you will need to configure on your router.

To order a line, you need a balance of at least one monthly fee. Higher amounts save you from having to recharge all the time. In any case, you will be reminded via e-mail and SMS if your balance is too low.

As soon as your payment arrives in our bank account, we will credit your prepaid account, and you will be notified via e-mail. Pending orders will automatically be executed. With online banking, the payment process usually takes about two business days.

Installation

If you already have the NSN of the previous tenant, then you can install your monzoon Prepaid-Internet line yourself. If you have purchased a modem/router from us, you will receive it pre-configured and ready to plug in.

If you don't know the NSN or if you have moved into a new building, your local electrician will help you with the installation of the new line — this service is charged separately. Please give our line information (UP/UPK) to the person doing the installation. You will receive it via e-mail after you order, and you can always look it up under MyAccount «Lines» Details.

If you already have an FTTH outlet (OTO) in your apartment, then you can install your monzoon Prepaid-Internet line yourself. If you have purchased a router from us, you will receive it pre-configured and ready to plug in.

No — the Internet connection will be established through the DSL modem/router. Normally no software installation on your PC is necessary.

In Switzerland, DSL is connected to Monzoon through an infrastructure operated by Swisscom. Only compatible modems/routers can be used reliably on this infrastructure.

Usually, devices distributed through official vendors are compatible. Imported devices — for example from Germany — often don't work, as they use different standards.

Attached you'll find a list of modems/routers that have been tested and certified to work by Swisscom.

The FTTH router must have a fiber port according to the 100BASE-BX or 1000BASE-BX specification. Furthermore, it must support PPPoE and VLAN (ID 11). The routers supplied by us meet these requirements.

As monzoon Prepaid-Internet does not include an e-mail account, Monzoon doesn't provide an SMTP server. Please use the SMTP server of your e-mail provider (with SMTP authentication). This makes your e-mail setup independent of the provider of the Internet connection that you use (i.e. you can send e-mail with the same settings, no matter how you are currently connected to the Internet — which is important e.g. with laptops). Furthermore, this kind of setup is recommended for anti-spam reasons and is the current state of the art.

If you have questions about e-mail configuration, please contact your e-mail provider or see their guides/configuration pages.

The DNS server addresses of monzoon Prepaid-Internet are:

  • 80.254.79.93
  • 80.254.79.7

These addresses are automatically assigned to the router via PPP; normally there is no need to configure them explicitly (except when using internal DNS forwarders like for example with Active Directory etc.).

For IPv6:

  • 2a02:200:1:70::93
  • 2a02:200:1:70::7

Ordering and setup

After you've placed your order and paid the first month's fee, we will start implementing your Internet connection. This typically takes up to 5 business days, sometimes longer. As soon as your line has been connected, we will inform you via e-mail and SMS.

For new orders we'll tell you the number of the contact in the building's phone distribution box. Given this information, you can then have an electrician connect it to a socket in your apartment.

No, if you already have a compatible modem/router, you can use it. If you're unsure whether your modem/router works with monzoon Prepaid-Internet, simply contact us and tell us the exact make/model of the device.

A modem can usually only connect one single PC to the Internet. A router allows multiple PCs and laptops to be connected. We recommend using a router, since you can combine it with a Wireless LAN access point to connect to the Internet wirelessly with your laptop or smartphone.

The NSN (Net Service Number) identifies your copper connection. This information is required for an initial order or in the event of a move. When moving into an existing flat, the NSN can be requested from the previous tenant.

Yes, on request we will provide you with a static IP address free of charge. You can order it in MyAccount (under «details» of the line).

Yes, native IPv6 over PPP is included for all lines free of charge. You will receive a permanently assigned subnet (/64 for WAN, /60 delegated for LAN). The configuration is done using SLAAC on the WAN side, and your router will receive the subnet for use on the LAN side via DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation.

Products

The actual speed of your DSL line depends on various technical factors, such as the distance to the nearest central office, the quality and age of the cabling, and the quality of the in-house installation. The speed that you ordered will be configured, but if you live in a remote location, it's possible that even if you order 50000/10000 kbps, you'll only actually reach 30000/6000 kbps.

Almost all of our customers already have their own e-mail address. An e-mail address that is tied to a specific Internet access is not recommended anymore nowadays.

We recommend using a free mailbox like for example www.gmx.ch. That way, even if you switch to a different Internet provider, you can keep your e-mail address.
